Hexagon Quilt.

Claire and I are together embarking on a new project. we are going to make a hexagon quilt. We started it on Monday at Brown Owls (which was heaps of fun) under surprising circumstances, we both stated cutting up hexagons separately to make a small cushion or something, then we we got together and realised the coincidence we decided to turn it into one big quilting project. we are going to make it all out of vintage and found fabrics, and sew it all together by hand, its going to take a long time, but i think we are both excited by that. hopefully by the end of next year it will be done. we were both inspired by the quilt we saw in one of Allisons photos and also by our Mum's efforts, she made the above quilt while she was pregnant with Claire, I think its really lovely, i doubt ours will be as well put together and coordinated as hers, but will look just as good in our own mismatched sort of way. once we have done a bit more piecing together i will be sure to post some pictures here!

emily's quilt.

Quite a while ago a friend of mine asked me if I would make her a quilt, I set about it quickly but then succumbed to study pressure a progress halted slightly. Earlier this week though I managed to finish it off and hand it over to her. I really like how it turned out, all the fabric is second hand, mostly found at op-shops and savers even the backing, which makes me really happy.

Dreaming of Crocheting.

It has been mentioned here a lot by both Claire and I can't crochet, we've tried, we have read lots of books and seen lots of demonstrations but we can't seem to get the hang of it. This doesn't mean we are going to give up, just that when we do manage to learn it will be all the better. There really is no reason why we shouldn't be able to crochet either. The blanket in these photos was created by our Aunty and given to our Mum for her 21st Birthday I think. Aunty Shelly is a little younger then Mum too, so she must have made it when she was in her teens I think and means that this blanket is more than 30yrs old, I hope i'm not insulting Mum when I say that. I really love it, I like the colours and thinking about why our Aunty choose them for our Mum, and all the time, effort and planning that would have gone into making it. It would have taken a while, because its huge, probably about the size of a queen blanket. Its perfectly made too, everything is the same size and tension (i think that is the right terminology) and it only shows a few signs of aging. I can't wait to master the art and get started on my own.

Things on the Go!

Currently I have two things I'm currently working on one quite small and the other a little larger. The bag is made from an old tea towel I found in an op-shop and really liked, all that is left to do of it is the handles, which is always my least favourite part, whenever I seem to get around doing them I always end up making some sort of silly mistake and then get a little disappointed with the end result, hopefully a quick solution will arise and the bag will be finished.

The other thing I'm making is a quilt for a friend of mine, I have just finished sewing all the patches together and and ready to choose some trim.

Both these projects are currently made of entirely recycled products, which I think is really important, sometimes I get a little down when I think about how much spending and throwing away goes on in this world.

See even our cat likes craft...

I couldn't resist posting this picture of our cat Harriette. The last time I visited Mum and Dad's for dinner, I caught her taking a nap on one of Mum's Knitted blankets, clinging onto a pair of knitting Nancie's. Mum is planning on giving them to her class (she teaches grade three and four) to have a go at. I remember these when I was younger, they were so much fun.

Today I am spending the day preparing to move house again. This is the third time I've moved this year, hopefully it will be the last too. Packing and un-packing boxes is not so fun.

Back to School...

Today, after what has been almost a seven week winter break, I finally returned to Uni. I'm usually pretty anxious around this time of year as it normally involves trying desperately to finalise a timetable which fits together, waiting in long ques to buy new books and awkward first tutorial moments when we are expected to introduce people we have never meet. But this semester was made a little more pleasant, thanks to Claire, who last night very kindly covered all my notebooks in lovely fabrics, hopefully the rest of the week will be just as nice.
